German international in Spaniard’s sights.
Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are targeting a January move for Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski as they look to keep up with Barcelona and cross city rivals Real, according to Sports Direct News.
The 28-year-old has seen his impact at the Emirates limited this season thanks to a hamstring injury and has made just four appearances in all competitions since sustaining the problem in August.
However, that hasn’t deterred Atletico from holding an interest and Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo claims that Diego Simeone will be keeping tabs on his situation with the view to making a move should he fail to win his starting spot back at the Emirates.
Podolski is currently believed to be making good progress in his return from injury and is expected back in November rather than in December as was first feared, but he has been warned not to expect to walk straight back into the Arsenal squad after the good form of Olivier Giroud has kept the side leading the charge at the top of the Premier League table.
The German international suffered the injury during the early stages of Arsenal’s Champions League campaign against Fenerbahce, just days after bagging a brace in the 3-1 win over Fulham.
