West Brom starlet Saido Berahino appears to be close to signing a contract extension with the club, according to the Daily Mail.

The talented 20-year-old has burst onto the scene this season with some fantastic performances, attracting the interest from big clubs such as Arsenal and Chelsea, leading the Baggies to work on offering him a new deal to remain at the Hawthorns.

After a particularly eye-catching display against champions Manchester United, when he scored a neat winning goal for West Brom at Old Trafford, Berahino has shown himself to be a player of great potential, who could have a big future in the game.

It soon emerged that the England Under-21 international only earns £850 a week at West Brom, and that he could be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

However, West Brom have moved to open talks with their star youngster to commit his future to the club, and it is understood that progress has been made and Berahino is expected to put pen to paper on a new deal.

This will be welcome news to Baggies boss Steve Clarke, who would not want to lose such a top player on the cheap.
