La Liga champions Barcelona want to replace outgoing goalkeeper Victor Valdes with out-of-favour Real Madrid shot-stopper Iker Casillas, according to reports in Italian sports daily La Stampa.

The Catalans are already planning for life at Nou Camp next season without their Spain international between the sticks after Valdes recently confirmed his intention to quit after 11 years with the club in order to pursue a new career abroad.

As a result, Barca have been scouring the European market of late in search of a replacement for Valdes, with the club having been linked with a whole host of top-level keepers.

However, as yet there has been no actual official confirmation about the identity of Valdes’s replacement in goal in Catalonia for the next campaign, and now rumours are beginning to circulate in the Spanish capital that Barcelona may attempt to lure Casillas away from the Santiago Bernabeu next summer to replace his compatriot.

The Spain and Madrid skipper has not featured regularly for Real  in La Liga for almost a year now, and recently declared that he may have to quit los Blancos if he had not regained his place in the first team by January.
