La Liga champions enter running for Dortmund striker.
Premier League pair Chelsea and Manchester United could face extra competition for the signing of Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski, according to Sports Direct News.
With Dortmund keen to sell Lewandowski for a cut-price fee of £7m to non-German teams this January, Barcelona have now emerged as front-runners for his signature in the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old is thought to be keen on sealing a move to Bayern Munich on a free transfer when his contract comes to an end next summer, though Dortmund are desperate to avoid losing him to their rivals.
With Jurgen Klopp’s side selling star youngster Mario Goetze to Bayern last season, they will be loath to see another key player follow, and a number of Premier League clubs have expressed an interest in landing him on the cheap.
However, Barcelona are also keen on signing a new centre-froward, with manager Gerardo Martino supposedly eyeing up some somewhat surprise targets in recent times, such as veteran Lazio front-man Miroslav Klose.
Lewandowski would be a more long-term option for the Catalan giants, and his direct play in the box could provide the La Liga champions with something a little different in attack.
