Serie A leaders keen on Swiss international.

Serie A leaders Roma could make a January bid for out-of-favour Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri, according to Forza Italian Football.

The 22-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best young players in Europe, though he has struggled to play regular first-team football since joining Bayern from Basel last year.

With so many talented attacking midfield players at the Allianz Arena, Shaqiri could be tempted to move on in his bid to continue his development into a top player.

Still, Bayern are unlikely to want to lose a top talent easily, and Roma may struggle to convince the Bavarian giants to sell the Swiss international.

Rudi Garcia’s side have started brilliantly in Serie A this season, winning all nine of their opening fixtures in the league so far, and are looking to strengthen their team in January after losing several players during the summer.

Shaqiri could be an ideal direct replacement for Erik Lamela, who moved to Tottenham for £30m, while Garcia could also be on the look-out for additions upfront following the departure of Pablo Osvaldo to Southampton.

Shaqiri has a contract with Bayern until 2016, and has made just three starts for the treble winners so far this term.
