Premier League giants Liverpool are interested in signing highly rated Djurgardens IF defender Daniel Amartey, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

The Ghana Under-20 international has been with the Swedish outfit since he turned professional at the age of 18 last December, making his debut for the club in March, and this season Amartey has appeared in a total of 28 matches for his club in all competitions, scoring one goal in the process, 22 of which came in the league.

And it is understood that the Reds have been keeping close tabs of late on the versatile 18-year-old, who can operate either as a centre back or as a midfield player too, with a view to possibly bringing Amartey to Anfield at the end of this season.

However, the Merseysiders will reportedly face stiff competition for the Ghanaian’s signature from the likes of Bundesliga sides Schalke o4 and Kaiserslautern if the player does actually decide to leave Djurgardens next summer.

But, with a contract with the Swedish team that currently runs until June 30 2017, Liverpool head coach Brendan Rodgers knows that Amartey will not come cheap to buy if the Merseysiders do indeed decide to make a move for the starlet.
