Man United are reportedly leading the chase to sign a trio of Benfica talents with David Moyes looking to trump the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham in pursuit of the Primeira Liga stars according to the Daily Express.

The leading priority of the Man United’s triple Estadio do Luz raid comes in the form of Argentine winger Nicolas Gaitan, who is said to be valued at around £25m, and is seen by David Moyes as an ideal addition to his Old Trafford attack.

It’s no surprise that the Scot is looking for fresh wide attacking options given the rather average form shown by the likes of Nani, Ashley Young and Luis Antonio Valencia this season, and new signing Wilfried Zaha is yet to play a single minute of Premier League football for Man United so it would appear that Moyes will look elsewhere to resolve this ‘problem area’.

Tottenham are also keen on the 25 year old wide-man.

Moyes will also look to freshen up his defence with another push for centre-back Ezequiel Garay, who has long been linked with a move to Man United.

With Rio Ferdinand clearly in the latter stages of his glittering career and Nemanja Vidic continuing to struggle with form and fitness a move for the former Real Madrid man makes sense.

The third Benfica star on the Man United radar is former Chelsea man Nemanja Matic, who has resurrected his career in Portugal after failing to make the grade at Stamford Bridge.

There is no denying the ability the Serbian international has, both in a defensive and attacking sense, though the player’s reported £25.7m price-tag may well scare off David Moyes.

With Moyes having made just one big money addition to the squad he inherited from Sir Alex Ferguson over the summer, in the form of Belgian powerhouse Marouane Fellaini, it is perhaps likely that the former Everton boss will look to bring in a big signing or two in January to help re-ignite his club’s challenge for major honours after an up and down start to the campaign.
