Arsenal reportedly sent a scout to monitor two players during yesterday’s goalless draw between West Ham and Aston Villa according to the Daily Mail.

Though Arsene Wenger’s side sit top of the Premier League they could certainly do with reinforcing certain areas of their squad and the Arsenal boss is seemingly keen on strengthening his playing staff with moves for both a striker and a new central defensive option.

Arsenal currently rely heavily on French forward Olivier Giroud and are now said to be keen on £25m rated Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, who has been a massive success since moving to Villa Park 18 months ago.

The Belgian scored 19 Premier League goals last term, essentially keeping the Midlands side in the top tier in the process, and the chance of a high profile move to the Emirates Stadium may well tempt the 22 year old though one would imagine Aston Villa will demand a massive fee for the marksman they spent £7m on.

Wenger is also apparently interested in New Zealand international Winston Reid, who has been in rock solid form over the past year.

Though Arsenal have a solid central defensive pairing of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny, with former skipper Thomas Vermaelen as a back-up option, Wenger appears keen on bringing in the £6m rated 25 year old Hammers man, who has made 92 appearances for the East London side.
