Chelsea will look to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski and are ready to offer £7m for the Polish international in January according to the Daily Mail.

The 25 year old may be set for a cut-price exit when the transfer window re-opens in preference to losing the Bundesliga ace for nothing next summer when his contract comes to an end though a decision to do so may well hinge on the club’s performance in the Champions League.

If Dortmund fail to progress to the knock-out stages of the tournament then a sale is apparently more likely and Jose Mourinho is leading the chase to snap up the forward as Jurgen Klopp’s side look to avoid losing Lewandowski to domestic rivals Bayern Munich.

Mourinho saw his Chelsea side draw a blank away at Newcastle United yesterday and has seen his striking quartet of Demba Ba, Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Andre Schurrle struggle for form, managing just three Premier League goals between them all season.

Lewandowski has been in amazing form at Dortmund in recent seasons and has scored a total of 88 goals in 156 appearances since moving to Germany from Lech Poznan back in June 2010.
