Man United are set to re-ignite their interest in long running target Nicolas Gaitan with David Moyes making the Argentine his number one transfer priority according to the Daily Express.

Though the Old Trafford side are also targeting Gaitan’s Benfica team-mates Nemanja Matic and Ezequiel Garay it is the 25 year old winger that is seemingly the man David Moyes is desperate to secure in January.

The former Boca Juniors man could well be tempted by a move to join the Premier League title holders and there is certainly scope for the addition of more effective wide attacking options to beef up the Man United front-line.

Nani, Luis Antonio Valencia, Danny Welbeck and Ashley Young have all failed to make a consistent impact thus far this season and Wilfried Zaha is still waiting for his Premier League debut.

Gaitan is into his fourth season at Benfica and has proven a big hit at the Primeira Liga club, scoring 18 goals and providing 38 assists over the course of his first three campaigns at the Lisbon based club.

Benfica are thought to be after a fee of around £25m for Gaitan, who will be acutely aware that a high profile move to Man United could aid his return to the Argentine national team set-up, his last call-up being back in February.
