Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur have been given a boost in their efforts to sign highly rated Corinthians front man Alexandre Pato when the winter transfer window opens again for business in the new year, according to reports in the Metro.

The north London club have been keeping close tabs on the Brazil international for some time now, with Tottenham head coach Andre Villas-Boas even failing with an £18 million bid for the striker during the recent summer transfer window.

However, Spurs’ hopes of being able to lure Pato to White Hart Lane at the turn of the year now appear to have increased after the forward had a major row with his club, who as a result could now be prepared to offload the 24-year-old.

Not only did Corinthians manager Tite label Pato “a spoilt child” after a recent disagreement between the two men in training, but a director at the Brazilian giants has now come out to confirm that the club could be looking to sell the attacker in the January window.

“We know there is interest in Pato and we don’t rule out selling him in the winter transfer market,” said Roberto de Andrade.

Pato is contracted to Corinthians until June 30 2017, having joined the club from Serie A outfit AC Milan last January on a four-year deal for a £12.8m.
