Bundesliga giants Schalke are hoping to beat Manchester City to the signature of experienced Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas by singing him on loan in January, according to talkSPORT.

The 32-year-old has been continuously linked with a switch to Manchester City as Manuel Pellegrini quickly loses faith in England number one Joe Hart and reports have suggested that he could be keen on leaving the Bernbeau as there appears to be no end in sight of his La Liga exile.

Jose Mouinho dropped him last year for Diego Lopez and new coach Carlo Ancelotti has resolved to stick with the former Villarreal man, who has been in good form since taking over, leaving Casillas to take care of cup competitions.

And as such, Schalke feel confident that they can put together a package that will persuade him to ditch the Spaniards and flee to Germany instead.

Schalke are thought to be losing patience with former German international Timo Hildebrand, who was at fault for one of Samuel Eto’s goals in their Champions League clash with Chelsea earlier this week and are targeting Casillas as a short term replacement until the end of the season.
