Citizens look to bring yet another Belgian to the Premier League.

Check in to Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester City sent scouts to Spain on Sunday to monitor the progress of Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld, according to ClubCall.

The Belgian international was in action for the capital club against Villarreal and reports from Spanish paper El Periodica Meditarreneo claims that City scouts were sat alongside those from Barcelona and Malaga to watch the game that ended as a 1-1 draw.

The point meant that Atletico were able to maintain their second place position in the table and for Alderweireld it was just his second appearance of the season following his £6m move from Ajax during the summer transfer window.

He had been signed by the La Liga giants as a replacement for the Manchester City bound Martin Demichelis, but has so far failed to establish himself in the first team, but that hasn’t stopped City from maintaining an interest.

Having previously been a target for Arsenal and Liverpool, the 24-year-old is thought to be high on Manuel Pellegrini’s wish list as he continues to hold concerns over his defence in the absence of Alderweireld’s compatriot, and club captain, Vincent Kompany.
