Premier League champions Manchester United have suffered a major injury scare with the news that in-form front man Robin van Persie has been made to withdraw from the Holland squad for their upcoming international friendly double header through injury, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

The prolific Netherlands international joined up with the rest of his Oranje team-mates on Monday for the matches against Japan in Genk, Belgium on Saturday, followed by the meeting with Colombia a week on Tuesday.

However, after consultation with the Dutch medical staff, Van Persie has since been sent back to his club in order to receive further treatment on the toe and groin problems that have been troubling the striker all season long.

Van Persie was fit enough, though, to start Sunday afternoon’s huge clash with Premier League leaders Arsenal at Old Trafford, with the 30-year-old’s first-half headed goal ultimately proving the difference between the two teams.

And the Dutchman has been in devastating goalscoring form for the Red Devils all season long, with no other player in the entire Premier League having found the back of the net more times than Van Persie has managed in 2013.
