Ex-Reds coach plans to raid German champions.
Napoli boss Rafa Benitez is set to beat his former club Liverpool to the signing of Bayern Munich wide man Xheridan Shaqiri when the transfer window opens in January, according to Sports Direct News.
The 22-year-old is highly regarded on the continent, but has found first team football with the current Bundesliga and European champions hard to come by and matters were made worse when he was ruled out for seven weeks in mid-October.
Liverpool have been credited with a long standing interest in the former FC Basle man and it was suggested just last month that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was planning a move of his own, though it is now believed that Benitez will step up his own efforts to bring in the Swiss international.
Benitez is keen to bring him to Naples to utilise his versatility in the attacking midfield positions and use his electric pace and to help the side with their challenge for the Serie A title.
With so much competition in the Bayern line up Shaqiri may find that a move would be beneficial for his career with a loan deal being a viable option with the view to a permanent transfer later in the summer.
