Premier League leaders Arsenal are interested in signing out-of-favour Manchester City front man Edin Dzeko to provide some much-needed cover for current first-choice marksman Olivier Giroud at the Emirates when the winter transfer window opens again for business in the new year, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

Arsenal move for Benzema maybe off

The north London club are known to currently be on the lookout for a new forward to bring to the capital come the turn of the year, with Gunners head coach Arsene Wenger understood to be weighing up making a move for either the Bosnia international or Real Madrid attacker Karim Benzema in January.

However, it is thought that the Frenchman is favouring bringing Dzeko to north London over Benzema due to the fact that City are now desperate to offload the 27-year-0ld as soon as the window reopens, with Blues manager Manuel Pellegrini having recently informed his bosses at Eastlands that the player is now surplus to requirements going forward in the north west.

As a result, Wenger feels it will therefore be far easier to lure Dzeko to the Emirates than it will be to convince los Blancos to part company with their one and only out-and-out centre forward during the middle of the season.
