Mega-rich Premier League outfit Manchester City will enter the winter transfer market for a new central defender when the window reopens again for business in the new year, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

The north-west outfit have been having to make do of late without the services at the back of key captain Vincent Kompany after the Belgium international suffered yet another muscle-related injury in the club’s 3-1 win against Everton in the Premier League last month.

However, after initially being expected to only be out of action for between two and three weeks, now Kompany is not expected back until January, meaning that new City head coach Manuel Pellegrini will definitely try and bring a new centre back to Eastlands come the turn of the year.

And the two defenders that the experienced Chilean manager has been heavily linked with of late are the Porto pair of Eliaquim Mangala and Nicolas Otamendi, although the Premier League giants also know that neither player will come cheap either.

In fact, it is expected that the Portuguese champions will demand whopping transfer fees of £34 million for their in-demand France international and £25m for their Argentina international if City do come calling next year.
