Serie A high-flyers Napoli want to battle big-spending Premier League side Manchester City for the coveted signature of St Etienne defender Kurt Zouma when the winter transfer market opens again for business in the new year, according to reports on talkSPORT.co.uk.

The France Under-21 international has been attracting the attentions of a whole host of clubs throughout the Continent recently, with both Serie A giants Inter Milan and La Liga pace-setters Atletico de Madrid known to be keen on signing Zouma at the turn of the year.

However, it is actually thought more likely that the 19-year-old – who was recently handed a ten-match ban for breaking an opponent’s leg – would prefer a move to either the north west of England or Southern Italy if given the choice.

Zouma has been with the Ligue 1 side for his whole career to date, with the highly rated centre back making his debut for les Verts in the 2011-12 campaign, in which the Frenchman managed to score two goals in his 22 league outings for the club.

And in total, the central defender has managed to register four goals and one assist in his 60 matches for St Etienne, form that is now likely to lead to a fierce fight for his services come January.
