Mourinho may feel that Matuidi is a more viable steely option to field in the centre of his side than the likes of John Obi Mikel or Michael Essien.
Jose Mourinho may well feel that Matuidi would offer a fresh dimension to his Blues midfield and the adaptable performer is well able to get stuck in but is also adept at pushing forward to make an impact in the final third when necessary.
