Reds coach Brendan Rodgers has explained that the reason he left defender Kolo Toure out of Liverpool’s latest squad in favour of Daniel Agger was to keep the squad fresh and firing on all cylinders, according to the Daily Star.

Rodgers’ men hammered four past Fulham last weekend and ditched their wingback formation for a 4-3-3 and he has promised to continue to make changes to his starting line up as the season progresses.

Danish stopper Daniel Agger started alongside Martin Skrtel whilst new signing Mamadou Sakho was named on the bench – meaning the experienced former Arsenal man was left out of the squad completely.

And Rodgers has insisted that it is all a plan to keep his men fit and fresh.

“I just decided to change it. I have said to the players that between now and January we have one game a week.

“The players are working very well and very hard on a daily basis but I need to give oxygen to some players, so they can see a light at the end of the tunnel.

“It is important that I use the players well.

“Kolo has been sensational since he has been in but Daniel Agger is a top player. I just need to balance the team out when I can.”
