Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been given the green light to make an offer for Corinthians striker Alexandre Pato according to the Daily Express.

The former AC Milan forward has struggled for form since returning to his native Brazil and has come in for a fair amount of abuse from his club’s own supporters, chiefly in relation to the large salary he is paid and the 24 year old’s inability to live up to sky high expectations.

Wenger is desperate to bring in a striker who can offer some much needed support to Olivier Giroud, who may well be in danger of suffering ‘burn-out’ having started all 15 of the North London club’s Premier League and Champions League encounters thus far this season.

The Gunners boss has been unable to call upon the likes of Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski, who Wenger usually uses in wide attacking roles, as the pair have both been sidelined with long term injuries and as such a move to sign Pato could be an ideal one to consider when the January transfer window re-opens.

Corinthians are apparently ready to consider offers of around £10m for Pato, a fair price for a player of his stature and experience.

Pato enjoyed bright spells during his six season tenure at the San Siro, during which the instinctive finisher netted 63 goals in 150 appearances.
