Liverpool have reportedly won the race to sign highly rated Derby County youngster Will Hughes according to the Daily Express.

The Anfield side will apparently pay £12m for the 18 year old, who is already into his third season in the Rams first team set-up.

The teenager is perhaps seen as a potential long term replacement for Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard and there is no denying the potential the intelligent midfielder possesses.

A move for Hughes certainly adheres to Liverpool’s youthful transfer policy and the fee is pretty much the going rate, if indeed this source is to be deemed as accurate.

Hughes has already won five England Under 21 caps and has made 59 appearances for his Championship side and in the process attracted a great deal of attention from prospective suitors, with Arsenal also tracking the youngster.

Liverpool boss Rodgers is well known for his willingness to trust to youth with the likes of Raheem Sterling, Andre Wisdom and John Flanagan being given the chance to make an impact in the first team set-up.
