The pint sized attacking midfielder has started just five Premier League fixtures this season and has failed to make all that much of an impact when called upon, leaving Mourinho happy to use Brazilian Oscar in preference to the former Valencia man.
Mata had two standout seasons following his arrival at Stamford Bridge, playing a pivotal role in the club’s Champions League and Europa League triumphs but until his form improves there will continue to be speculation about his long term future at Chelsea.
PSG are said to be ready to offer €48m (£40m) for Mata, an offer that may well be accepted by the West London club and welcomed by the Spaniard if by the time the January transfer window opens he is still not a prominent part of Jose Mourinho’s first team plans.
Mata racked up 32 goals and 49 assists in his first two seasons at Chelsea, and in the process picking up the club’s player of the year award two years in succession.
