Benitez has stepped up the search for a new right-back option with Camilo Zuniga being strongly linked with a Naples exit for either Barcelona or Real Madrid.
The former Chelsea interim boss is also said to be monitoring Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta, who has been axed by Jose Mourinho, though 22 year old Italian international Santon is now also on the San Paolo radar.
Santon completed his move from Inter Milan to St James’ Park back in August 2011 and has had something of an up and down time of it though it’s fair to say that the attack minded wide-man has impressed this season and has started ten of Newcastle United’s 11 Premier League fixtures this term.
However a move back to his native Italy could perhaps tempt Santon and a move to Napoli will become all the more interesting to the Magpies youngster if Benitez’s side are still competing in the Champions League come January.
