Arsenal have learned that they will need to offer full-back Bacary Sagna a two-year deal on £100,000 pew week in order to keep him at the Emirates beyond the expiration of his current contract, according to Sports Direct News.

Arsenal Transfer News

The French international is on the radar’s of both big spending French giants Paris Saint Germain and Monaco, but talks with the Gunners over a possible extension are still ongoing.

The 30-year-old is believed to be keen on staying with the Gunners, but would like an increase on his salary that supposedly stands at £60,000 per week and he is hoping to be able to tie a deal up sooner rather than later.

However, manager Arsene Wenger runs a strict over-30s policy in which any contract offered would be no longer than 12 months and that is apparently the reason for the major hold up.

Sagna also feels that given his good form so far this term, which has helped the club jump to the top of the table, is a good enough cause for a jump in wages.

His argument may cause Wenger to think again as there are question marks over whether youngster Carl Jenkinson is the man to take over Sagna’s role on a full time basis and any replacement would cost the club millions.

A source close to the club said;

“It’s difficult to see why Arsenal would not want to keep him on an improved deal.

“It will cost them far less than finding a top class replacement. I understand talks are continuing.”
