Reports in Spain recently had suggested that the playmaker could once again line up in the Arsenal midfield after he had grown frustrated at not being a regular feature in the Catalans first team.

However, he has hit back at those claims by saying that he is not looking to go back to England and is hoping to be able to finish his career with his hometown club.

Also strongly linked with a move to Manchester United he denied that he would be interested in a change of scenery in the UK, insisting that it is only Barcelona that he is interested in representing.

“It would be a dream come true to retire with Barca,” he told fans on Facebook.

“I will continue to work very hard to make that happen.

“Playing here is a dream and means everything to me because I have always been a huge fan.”

Fabregas still holds fond memories of his time at Arsenal and answered one Facebook fan who asked him for his favourite football moment with a response to make all Gunners’ fans smile.

“Scoring against Spurs,” he replied.
