Old Trafford boss David Moyes recently admitted that he believes that Man United could lure the 28 year old back to the club he spent six seasons with and talk of such a move is now very much a realistic goal the Premier League title holders will look to achieve.

Whilst a move for the Real Madrid man in January is unlikely this source believes that funds have been set aside to make a big money move for the Portuguese international.

The Glazers see a move to sign Ronaldo as part of a mega-commercial deal that would be considered a major coup and one that would very much assert Man United’s claim to be the biggest brand in world football.

David Moyes made just one major summer signing, in the form of Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini, and will be keen to put his stamp on the squad he inherited from Sir Alex Ferguson. A move to fund a big money bid for Ronaldo would show that the club’s board are firmly backing the former Everton boss after a fairly shaky start to his tenure in charge.

Ronaldo has of course been a phenomenal success at Real Madrid, scoring an astonishing 226 goals in 217 appearances though it should be noted that in his four completed seasons at the club the Spanish giants collected just one La Liga title and a Copa del Rey triumph.
