Andre Villas-Boas’s White Hart Lane job is apparently on the line after a series of poor displays, culminating in a 6-0 thrashing against Man City, and a move to sign the Man United attacking midfielder is seen as an attempt to save the North London club’s season.
Kagawa had an average first campaign at Man United following his move to the club from Borussia Dortmund and under David Moyes the 24 year old has barely featured, making just three Premier League starts thus far this season, and a move to Tottenham may tempt the creative midfielder.
Villas-Boas spent over £100m on new players over the summer but the outlay was more than covered by player sales, most notably by the £85m departure of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid, and as such the former Chelsea boss may well expect a decent transfer war-chest for his use in the upcoming transfer window.
Tottenham currently sit in ninth place and could certainly do with some improving their options in the final third having scored just nine goals in 12 Premier League fixtures. Though Kagawa hasn’t scored a great deal since moving to Man United he did rack up an impressive 27 goals in 71 appearances for Dortmund.
