Man United boss David Moyes is lining up a truly shocking move to sign Man City centre-back Joleon Lescott according to Sports Direct News.

Though the former Everton boss has targeted Goodison Park defender Phil Jageilka the Scot is ready to then turn to the Etihad Stadium man as a second option to boost this central defensive options.

With Nemanja Vidic suffering with injuries in recent seasons and 35 year old Rio Ferdinand clearly being in the latter stages of his career there would appear to be scope for a fresh option at the back, not least because Chris Smalling and Phil Jones appear better suited to their respective full-back and defensive midfielder roles.

31 year old England man Lescott is into the final year of his current City contract and when all Manuel Pellegrini’s defenders are fighting fit then the former Everton man is behind Vicent Kompany and Matija Nastasic in the Chilean’s pecking order.

Such a move would be something of a shock but could perhaps be a cost effective medium term option for David Moyes to consider, though a lot could depend on any bad blood that exists between the two after Lescott’s contentious move from Goodison Park to Man City back in August 2009.
