In a bizarre turn, League One side Wolverhampton Wanderers were forced to issue a statement declaring that Leigh Griffiths’ goal celebration against Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday night, where he lifted his shirt to reveal a message that read “R.I.P Brian” was not directed at the death of the popular cartoon dog from Family Guy, but to a family member of the same name.

Griffiths broke the deadlock after just 16 minutes, and upon scoring ran over to the cameras to reveal his tribute t-shirt. Word quickly spread that it was for the cartoon character, who had just been killed off on the TV series, but the club were quick to put an end to that by confirming that it was actually for a family member of the players.
