The Italian international has been one of Inter’s key men in their resurgence this season as they continue to recover from their worst ever league finish last term that saw them come in ninth place in the Serie A table.
His current deal expires in 2015 and as of yet he has not agreed to a new deal to stay with the Nerazzurri, and the news has alerted Manchester United as well as fellow Serie A sides Juventus and AC Milan.
However, it is now being reported that the Stamford Bridge outfit are the frontrunners for his signature after Mourinho has targeted a top class central defender to add to his squad following failed attempts to land Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and Porto’s Eliaquim Mangala over the summer.
Mourinho is also keen to land Ranocchia as he is well aware of what he is capable of and he would be available for significantly less than some of the other stars that would perhaps be on his shortlist.
