Having netted just nine goals in their opening dozen Premier League fixtures, with three of those coming in a 3-0 win away at Tottenham, the Upton Park side need to bring in an effective striking option to help prevent the East London club from a relegation dogfight.
Sam Allardyce has apparently drawn up a 19 man wish-list to help resolve this issue and now Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor is high up on the agenda.
The 29 year old is said to be on a astronomical £170k a week deal, with former club Man City still footing a significant portion of that total, and West Ham would have to offer Adebayor something similar in order to persuade the former Arsenal man to join the club.
Andre Villas-Boas has only handed Adebayor one Premier League appearance this term but the powerful forward does have what it takes to make a real impact in the top tier and could be the man to steer West Ham back up the table.
