Though the 20-year-old is a highly rated talent in the northwest of England, his stream of inconsistent performances have prompted Manuel Pellegrini to look into the possibility of bringing a new central defender on board during the upcoming January transfer window.
And with the young Serb possibly sliding down the pecking order at the club, Inter are preparing to move ahead with their initial interest as Mazzarri looks to make more quality additions to his side in order to continue with the rebuilding process currently underway at the San Siro.
Nastasic is already well known in the Italian top flight having previously playing for Fiorentina before being snapped up by former City boss Roberto Mancini in the summer of 2012.
Inter are also thought to be keeping tabs on striker Edin Dzeko after Pellegrini hinted that he could well be another player that he decides to let go in the upcoming transfer window.
