The German international has failed to find his best form in north London since making the move from Schalke last January, and has subsequently found regular playing time hard to come by, and he is now believed to have been made available by Spurs with several clubs in Germany and Italy monitoring his situation.
However, manager Andre Villas-Boas is thought to be keen on using him as bait to land one of English football’s brightest young talents and will offer Holtby to the Toffees for Ross Barkley.
Holtby, who grew up in an Everton supporting house, has been a long time target for the Merseyside outfit earlier in his career before being pounced on by Tottenham.
Holtby would be keen to welcome the chance to play more regular first team football and could be convinced that the move would be a good idea, but Everton aren’t likely to be interested in letting Barkley leave so soon into his development.
Barkley has been in good form for Roberto Martinez’s men this season and has even forced his way into the England national side. Both Chelsea and Manchester United are said to be interested in his signature but Tottenham are hoping to get the jump on his services.
