The Toffees record transfer spend to date came in their £15m purchase of Marouane Fellaini, who was of course sold to Man United in the summer, and given that the Merseyside club also spent £13m to sign Wigan Athletic’s James McCarthy one would have to assume that £25m is a fee out of Everton’s league at present.
Lukaku has been a tremendous success since moving to Everton on a season long loan spell, scoring eight goals in nine Premier League fixtures.
Chelsea’s current crop of strikers have failed to make much of an impact with Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o, Demba Ba and Andre Schurrle scoring just five Premier League goals between them this season.
