Reports in both Germany and the player’s native country Switzerland have suggested that the Reds boss is leading the charge for the hugely talented 21-year-old and will test Gladbach’s resolve with a bid in the new year.
Liverpool’s cross-city rivals Everton have also been linked with the same player in the past, but he continues to make the headlines and attract attention from bigger clubs with an ongoing series of impressive performances in the German top flight.
Rodgers has been keen to rejuvenate the club with a strict youth policy since taking charge in the summer of 2012 and has seen his good work finally start to pay off thanks to the likes of Philippe Coutinho. Over recent weeks he has also been linked with moves for the likes of Will Hughes of Derby County and PSG’s Javier Pastore.
Liverpool also made a number of purchases over the summer and are looking to carry on spending in a bid to finally crack the top four once again.
