The 23 year old Brazilian has made just three Premier League starts this season with David Moyes opting to use Chris Smalling as his first choice right-back and as such Rafael may well be considering his options and a move to Arsenal could tempt the wide-man.

Last term Rafael was a regular under Sir Alex Ferguson and if he feels that he is no progressing at Old Trafford then it’s likely alternative offers will tempt the youngster and Arsene Wenger may feel the Man United man a suitable replacement for Frenchman Bacary Sagna.

The Gunners star is out of contract in the summer and there is growing speculation that the 30 year old will look to secure a free transfer move back to his native France.

Sagna has made 255 appearances for Arsenal since joining the North London club from Auxerre in July 2007.
