Ings has seamlessly taken the mantle of Charlie Austin, who moved to QPR, scoring 14 goals in 21 matches in all competitions this term to help the Clarets to mount a genuine promotion challenge.
Liverpool have relied heavily on Sturridge and in-form Uruguayan Luis Suarez and could well do with an alternative source of goals as they push for a Champions League berth though one would imagine a move for Ings is more a long term strategic measure.
As well as scoring regularly for Burnley this term Ings has also netted twice in two England Under 21 appearances.
