The Belgian youngster was sent out on loan for a second season running after seemingly not being seen by Jose Mourinho as a viable option to use in his Blues attack.
Mourinho may not have seen Lukaku as good enough to lead his Chelsea attack but having seen the 20 year old score eight goals in nine Premier League starts, more goals than Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o, Andre Schurrle and Demba Ba combined, the Portuguese manager may well have changed his opinion of the powerful forward.
Villas-Boas forked out £50m+ to bring in Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela and neither has impressed this term and Lukaku is a player who may become available next summer if the forward chooses to force an exit from a club he feels he can not break into.
Andre Villas-Boas was the man who signed Lukaku during his tenure as Chelsea boss but it remains to be seen if the young manager will see be at the Tottenham helm come the end of the season as it’s likely that anything less than a top four finish could cost him his job.
Lukaku excelled at West Brom last term, scoring 17 goals, and has gone on to prove he is more than capable of scoring regularly at Premier League level.
