The former France international has only been with the Russian giants since the start of this season, when Diarra joined the club from Anzhi Makhachkala on a bumper four-year deal worth £65,000 per week excluding bonuses.

However, it is understood that the 28-year-old is keen to depart the Russian capital at the turn of the year in order to play in a more competitive league, with the English top flight believed to be Diarra’s preferred destination of choice.

Diarra, of course, spent four years playing in the Premier League between 2005 and 2009, with the defensive midfield player representing the likes of Chelsea, Portsmouth and Arsenal during his time in England, before he moved to La Liga giants Real Madrid in January 2009 from Pompey for a fee of 20 million euros.

But now both the Premier League leaders and the mega-rich north-west outfit have reportedly expressed an interest in luring the highly rated Frenchman back to the Premier League in January, although the holding midfielder will not come cheap to buy though.
