Chelsea Star Being Targeted For MLS Move In 2014

Englishman has found himself being used only as a bit-part player by the Blues of late.

Out-of-favour Chelsea defender Ashley Cole is being targeted by Major League Soccer (MLS) for a possible end-of-season move to the United States, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

The veteran England international has found himself in an unfamiliar position of late, warming the substitutes’ bench at Stamford Bridge due to a combination of both injury and loss of form, with returning head coach Jose Mourinho instead preferring to utilise right-back Cesar Azpilicueta in the role instead.

Cole has not been seen in a Chelsea shirt since the west London club’s shock 2-0 loss in the Premier League to Newcastle United at St James’ Park and with the 32-year-old’s one-year rolling contract expiring at the end of this campaign, rumours have been rife suggesting that this will be the experienced left back’s final season at Stamford Bridge.

And one possible destination that has been suggested for the Englishman is MLS franchise the New York Red Bulls, where Cole would once again be reunited with his former Arsenal team-mate Thierry Henry, who has been in the Big Apple himself now for the past three years.

In fact, it is understood that the Red Bulls are even hoping to be able to persuade the player to make the transatlantic move across the Pond as early as January.
