The future of the highly rated Spain international with los Blancos has been in doubt for some time now, especially with Alonso’s current deal with the Liga side set to expire on June 30 2014 and still no agreement in place to extend that contract beyond the summer.

As a result, rumours have been rife of late linking the 32-year-old with a possible return to the English Premier League, which Alonso graced with such style and panache for five years with Liverpool between 2004 and 2009, with both his former club on Merseyside, as well as Chelsea having been mentioned as likely destinations for the holding midfield player were he not to agree new terms in the Spanish capital.

However, it now seems more than likely that the coveted Spaniard will in fact end his playing career at the White House after new Madrid boss Ancelotti confirmed that in actual fact, the two parties were currently in negotiations over a contract extension.
