The Uruguayan has been in electric form this season since returning from a 10 game ban, notching up 14 Premier League goals in just 10 games.
The 26-year-old clocked up four goals against Norwich City during the week, and added another to his ever growing tally at the weekend against West Ham to secure a victory that took them up to second place in the league table.
He has been a long term target of Spanish giants Real Madrid, and the club are widely expected to make a big money bod for his services when the transfer window reopens in January.
However, Brendan Rodgers is determined to keep a hold of the player, and according to sources close to the club he will try and persuade him to stay put by signing Atletico frontman Diego Costa to prove the club’s ambition.
The Brazilian-born Spanish international has netted 15 goals in 15 league games for Atletico this term and has also caught the eye of Liverpool’s rivals Chelsea as well as German side Borussia Dortmund, who are still looking for an adequate replacement for the outbound Robert Lewandowski.
