Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye has played down rumours that he has received a fresh offer from Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint Germain, but stopped short at ruling out a switch completely, Sky Sports reports.

Cabaye was the subject of some intense speculation over the summer as Arsenal made an enquiry into his service. They were promptly rejected by Alan Pardew, but the interest hasn’t diminished with PSG still hoping to be able to strike a deal for the 27-year-old.

He had tried to push through the move to the Emirates, and has continued to state that though he is happy at St James’, he is still hoping to be able to play Champions League football at some point in the near future.

At present, there has been no official approach made, and the former Lille man has done little to distance himself from a move to the French capital, and even went on to declare his admiration for the star studded outfit.

“As far as I know, there has been no contact with Paris St Germain,” he said.

“Who wouldn’t want to join PSG today? Paris make other teams afraid in Europe, more so than last season. I really hope they win the Champions League.”

Coach Laurent Blanc also helped to fan the flames after admitting that he was a fan of the player after his side’s 5-0 victory over Sochaux  at the weekend.

“I’m the coach of a big club with a lot of ambition, so all good players interest us,” he said.
