Reports from both camps had suggested that City were planning a January bid of £40m for the German international in a bid to solve their goalkeeping problems.

Current England number one Joe Hart has been in woeful form for his club this season and has missed the previous six games in favour of Costel Pantilimon and the club are now thought to be looking into other possibilities.

Neuer has established himself as one of the world’s best goalkeepers over recent years thanks to his displays for both club and country, and Guardiola highlighted exactly why he is so intent on keeping him at the Alianz Arena.

With the two side’s meeting in the Champions League on Tuesday, Guardiola was asked about the bid, to which he replied: “No chance.”

Joe Hart is set to start the game against Bayern, and Manuel Pellegrini has called for the 26-year-old to focus and prove that he is worth trusting again on a regular basis in the starting XI.

“For him, it’s a very important game and he must not think about the past, but think about the future,” said Pellegrini.

“I’m absolutely sure and I trust in him.”
