Jose Mourinho may well feel that Draxler is a player he would look to act as a long term replacement for veteran Blues star Frank Lampard and Chelsea have the financial power to meet Schalke’s valuation.
Draxler may also feel that a move to Chelsea in January could aid his push for a prominent role in Joachim Low’s German national team set-up for the 2014 World Cup finals.
The attack minded midfielder has already racked up 132 appearances for Schalke and has won ten national team caps.
Mourinho would presumably be amenable to the option of using youngster Kevin de Bruyne to help secure Draxler, indeed he may not be the only member of the Belgian contingent who could be offloaded with the likes of Thibaut Courtois and Romelu Lukaku once again sent out on loan, both may well be considering their long term prospects at Stamford Bridge.
