With both Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson both injured Rodgers has perhaps realised that he is short of options in his midfield and knowing that he can pick up 26 year old Senegal international Diame for just £3.5m it appears that the Northern Irish boss is ready to make a move for the Hammers star.

Kenny Dalglish apparently came close to signing Diame during his tenure in charge and now Rodgers is ready to re-ignite the club’s interest in the former Wigan Athletic man.
Indeed the box to box performer is an experienced Premier League asset who is well worth the bargain sum needed to snap him up and no doubt a move to Liverpool would tempt Diame, not least as West Ham are struggling for form this season, skirting just above the relegation zone.
Coupled with injury concerns it’s worth noting that on the whole Joe Allen has failed to live up to expectations since moving to Liverpool and Diame could not only offer something pushing forwards he is also more than capable of adding some steel to the club’s midfield, a role that is currently only really supplied by Brazilian Lucas Leiva.
