The Icelandic international has not managed to show his best form during his time at White Heart Lane that prompted the club to sign him permanently after impressing during a loan spell from Swansea City in the second half of the 2011/12 season, and has since struggled to hold down a regular spot in the starting XI.
Swansea were then managed by current Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, who got to see what the player could do at first hand, and he is now said to be eager to work with the player once again at Anfield.
Spurs are believed to be willing to let a number of players go during the January window as they have struggled for form and goals this season, and they are already eyeing up moves for a number of replacements already.
Sigurdsson faces plenty of competition for places with the likes of Paulinho and Lewis Holtby in the Tottenham squad, whilst Liverpool are still in need of another central, creatively minded midfield player.
