Manchester City could close the gap on leaders Arsenal to three points when they put their perfect home record on the line on Saturday, although they would need to damage the best away record in the league in the process.
City have been unstoppable in the Premier League at Etihad Stadium this term, scoring 29 goals in their sevens wins and conceding just two.
Arsenal have arguably been just as impressive on the road. They have won five of their seven matches, losing just one at Old Trafford last month.
While the Gunners have clicked both home and away, the same cannot be said of City. They have lost four of their eight games away from the Etihad, winning just two. However, they have shown recent signs of life and are, of course, in familiar surroundings this weekend.
A trip to Etihad is a daunting prospect for any side, regardless of their league position. Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo have found the net 30 times between them in all competitions and have been particularly impressive at home. Arsenal will need to stop them if they are to become the first side to leave the Etihad with something this season.
Aguero is 17/4 with BetVictor to grab the first goal, while Negredo is a more attractive 5/1.
Arsenal should not rely on defending their way to a result; attack could well be the best form of defence, as Bayern Munich showed in October. Arsene Wenger’s side have plenty of midfield quality in the likes of Mesut Ozil, and have a good finisher in Olivier Giroud.
City’s run has to come to an end at some stage and in-form Arsenal are well equipped to do just that.
But the way Manuel Pellegrini’s men have been playing on home soil, it is hard to look past an eighth straight win for City. Whatever the result, this game looks set to be an absolute cracker!
