The west London club, as well as German giants Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, have all been keeping close tabs on Brandt for some time now in the hope of signing the 17-year-old when the winter transfer window opens again for business in the new year.
However, all three European heavyweights have now missed out on the Germany Under-19 international”s signature after Brandt instead agreed to join Leverkusen on a five-and-a-half-year deal beginning next month, and this despite his employers having initially insisted that their midfield starlet would not be moving anywhere before the end of this season.
The player is rated as one of the most exciting and promising players in his position in the whole of Germany, with Brandt having managed to find the back of the net on an impressive 22 occasions for the Wolfsburg U19 side going into this campaign.
Meanwhile so far this season, Brandt has registered six goals and 11 assists in just 14 matches, with Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Voller saying of his new charge: “Julian Brandt is one of the most talented players in German football.”
